Bran locality is situated in nearby of Piatra Craiului Mountains and form with the other localities from surroundings, one of the most important touristical zone from Carpathian Mountains. The location is perfect, being well-known that in this area crossed the old commercial and strategical way between Tara Barsei (Barsei Country) and Tara Romaneasca (Romanian Country). In locality you find a museum of Bran village, which presents countrymans’ household and traditional occupations. The castle construction was determined by political situation from XIV. century. This thing was mentioned in a letter with documentary value (1377) of Hungarian’s King, Ludovic I d’Anjou, addressing to Brasov city authorities through was demanded a fortress construction in Bran – Rucar area for strengthen the defence system of east Transylvania border. Later the castle obtained a comercial function being the custom-house point between Transylvania and Romanian Country. In 1395 the king of Hungaria, Sigismund of Luxemburg, gifted the castle for Mircea cel Batran, reign of Romanian Country, gratitude for the accept of conclude an antiothoman alliance. In 1419 Sigismund king take over the castle which will remain in local administration. The voivode of Transilvania, Iancu de Hunedoara, understanding the strategical importance of the castle, repairs and revigorates the surroundings of its, transforming in a defence fortress. Between 1448-1467 the castle history has a connection with Vlad Tepes voivode, who lived many times here being even prisoner few days in castle on order of Hungarian’s king. The Bran Castle remains in Brasov properties, whom transform from defence fortress destination in an important comercial and administrative border point. The Austro-Hungarian authority destroy in 1877 the fortress’ roof, cut off the towers and replace these with earth and stick stratums. In 1886 the castle was restored the initial form. In the interwar periode the castle belong for the royal house (the sommer royal residence) having a lot of functional modifications. In 1957, the Bran Castle became history and feudal art museum, containing in 27 inside rooms armures collection, furnitures from medieval epoch. These 5 nivels, the towers, the defence passages, the cells, the basements, the halls which formed a misteriouse labirint, the inside yard where exist a deep fountain (57m) made from castle one of the most important attractions of Romania and it is a rich touristical resourse.
